Join in the call to asset-based ministry—building relationships in communities that cultivate and utilize existing gifts and capacities of all to help meet a community’s challenges. We will explore the principles and practices of Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), grounded in our theological understanding that all we need is already provided.
Our focus will be on learning anew to listen deeply—when we go into the world to love like Jesus, crossing boundaries, and listening to (and for) our neighbors’ hopes and dreams; and then asking questions that help lead people to connect to the abundant resources already present; gifts sometimes hiding in plain sight.
Guest practitioner, DeAmon “Roving Listener” Harges, along with Episcopal and community partners from Crawfordville, Sparta, Macon, and Columbus GA will guide us throughout the day in the practical application of ABCD. Participants will have opportunities to practice listening and asking new questions, and listen for how God may be calling you to “turn it around” and take a new approach to community engagement.
Parish outreach and community ministry leadership and volunteers are encouraged to attend as well as representatives from key community groups with whom you partner. All are welcome.
This event is sponsored by diocesan ministries including: Appleton Episcopal Ministries, Chattahoochee Valley Episcopal Ministry, Episcopal Releif and Development, and Jubilee Ministries. 6 CEU credits available.
The cost to attend includes take-home materials, continental breakfast, and lunch.
